Recently, I went to a seminar in Salt Lake City that was all about auto accident injuries and chiropractic. The purpose of the seminar was to enable me to better help our personal injury and car accident patients. Though we have had a lot of experience with treating victims of motor vehicle accidents, it’s always great to learn more.
During the seminar we had a lot of different presenters, who spoke on a wide range of topics including muscle work, examinations, x-rays, and working with auto insurance and PIP. We even had motivational speakers like Jonathon Sprinkles and Glenn Morshower. It was a great seminar for Chiropractors and auto injury attorneys to better learn how to help you if you’re ever in a car accident.
One of the important things I learned from the seminar was that in the state of Utah, each driver has what is called PIP or personal injury protection, and the minimum for Utah is $3000. That means that if you are in a car accident and are injured, your car insurance will pick up the bill for the E.R., medications, even chiropractic, massage, and physical therapy. This PIP is provided, even if the accident is your fault, but will still cover your expenses if it’s not your fault as well. We also learned that if you are not at fault when you are in an accident, it is a good idea to consult with an attorney, just to make sure you are taken care of in the best way. If you are in an accident, we’d be happy to recommend a couple of attorneys here in Southern Utah that can help you.
We’ve had a lot of patients who were, at some point in their lives’, in a car accident. We’ve found that the people who get treatment shortly after a car accident have the best outcomes and results. Studies show that within two weeks of an injury your body starts to build irreparable scar tissue in the ligaments. Chiropractic after an auto accident can help your body heal in best way possible.
When I was younger and in High School, I was in a couple of major car accidents. Fortunately I sustained no major injuries other than a mildly broken knee, but I did have major whiplash. After each accident, I visited my uncle, who is a chiropractor and one of my inspirations for becoming a chiropractor. Because of the treatment I received, I haven’t had any long lasting injuries or problems. It is one of my greatest joys when someone comes into our office after a car accident, because I know they are getting the treatment they need to forestall future problems, aches, and pains.
Unfortunately, sometimes our little ones are in the car when we crash. 6 years ago my wife, mother, and 2 month old daughter were driving in Oregon when we hit some black ice and plowed into the back of a flat-bed semi. We were all fine, but shaken up and had some whiplash. When we got home, we all made sure to get checked, and adjusted, even our two month old. Even though children don’t complain of pain, they do get the same injuries as we do and would benefit from chiropractic care as well.
I hope that you are never in a car accident, but if you are, know that we are here to help you. Whether you just had an accident, or it was months or even years ago, call us for a consultation and we can help you get back to how you were feeling before the accident.
